Mapping the Solidarity Economy in Oxford

Oxford has a thriving network of organisations working to create a just and sustainable city. Many of these organisations will be part of what’s known around the world as the solidarity economy – an alternative, grassroots economy.

Solidarity economy initiatives share a set of values, and have been created to meet a need within their community, or broader society, that isn’t being met by our mainstream economy, or because those needs are being met in unethical or unsustainable ways.
The Solidarity Economy Assocation was set up to support the growth of the solidarity economy in the UK, and to connect it with the wider global movement. To do that, we first need to make the solidarity economy visible, so we’re starting by mapping it

We need your help to create a digital map of Oxford’s solidarity economy - all of the grassroots organisations, informal meetings, neighbourhood projects, local community groups, co-ops, associations and networks in our city that are working towards the same values. Click here to find out more about the benefits of the project.

If you are involved with an initiative that you think should be on the map, please click Next below to answer a few questions.

Before you do so, please note:

  • We are asking initiatives to self-nominate (using this survey) if they feel they are fulfilling, or are working towards fulfilling, some or all of the values of the solidarity economy, and
  • We are asking individuals and organisations to spread the word as far as they can about this – either by forwarding this form to others that they feel should be included on the map, or by sending us suggestions of others to invite to nominate themselves.
